The Short Film Awards will present a virtual screening of all of the 59 SOFIE Award nominated films on Vimeo and Roku, as part of The 7th Annual SOFIE Awards event, this year.
“We are so excited to leverage the reach of Vimeo, a most-trusted and respected platform for filmmakers, and Roku, now boasting 55.1 million active viewer accounts, to foster even greater exposure for these amazing and deserving SOFIE Award nominated short films,” said Cindy Birch, Executive Director of The Short Film Awards.
Usually, SOFIE Award film screenings are in-person events in New York City. However, the Covid pandemic forced the annual film festival to go virtual last year and again this year. Noting great interest and always seeking to better connect with and engage their global filmmaking community, The Short Film Awards now plans to maintain the virtual screenings, even after returning to live, in-person events.
Tickets for the virtual film screening go on sale Monday, October 18, through The Short Film Awards website www.The SOFIES.com and the organization’s official Vimeo The SOFIES channel. For just $5 USD, viewers can purchase access to all of the 59 2021 SOFIE nominated short films for the 19 days (November 1 – 19, 2021) leading up to The 7th Annual Short Film SOFIE Awards, to also be held virtually on Saturday, November 20th.
Ms. Birch also shared, “There are 23 SOFIE Award categories. Viewers will be able to enjoy the nominated shorts grouped according to their nomination categories. There’s an animated short presented by THE Paul McCartney, titled after his song, WHEN WINTER COMES. Another short, UNHINGED, stars Academy Award nominee, Eric Roberts. There are thrillers, comedies, inspiring documentaries, including OUT SWING, about a forbidden girls’ cricket team in Islamabad, Pakistan. Our filmmakers love to see the projects of their peers and fellow nominees. It’s exciting to see the impressive competition and wonder who will take home the SOFIE.”
SOFIE Award winners will receive the beautiful and coveted SOFIE statuette, designed and manufactured by the same makers of some of the most prestigious entertainment awards in the world.
